Feng Shui gives us the keys to make your bed a true resting place. Our room is a space for rest and recollection: Ideally, it should be an oasis that frees us from the daily rush and stress. However, nowadays it is difficult to leave the “noise” out the accumulation of objects in confined spaces, mobile notifications… To learn how to make our room space of calm and well-being, we can rely on the rules of Feng Shui, especially those that refer to the location and environment of the bed. Find out below.
Feng Shui seeks to promote well-being through the harmony of the human being with his environment, making him aware of how he occupies his most immediate space. According to the principles of this ancient philosophy, the bed is the most important piece of furniture in the house.
The bedroom is the space dedicated to rest and intimacy, so it is important that the energy or Chi of this space, be yin, of rest, and calm. This type of softer energy can be found in objects, materials, and colors where earth and wood elements predominate. The bed is the main element of the bedroom and its location is also key to a good rest.
When we feel safe, we rest better. Therefore, it is good to feel protected and supported by leaning the front of the bed against the wall. The best location for the bed is with the headboard resting on a wall and out of the door-window path. It is important to place a good headboard to create a feeling of protection. The most recommended ones are wooden ones, avoid metal ones.
And don’t leave empty spaces. For the same reason to promote a feeling of support and security, avoid placing the bed under a window. Also, this way you will stay away from noise, odors, or lights from the outside that may enter through it. Also, do not place it in the middle of the room with a step behind or a space in which to place other furniture or a dressing room. This creates insecurity. The best, as we have said before, the headboard against the wall.
Symmetry generates peace, order, and settlement, so put two tables with their respective lamps and rugs. Also leave the space on both sides of the bed free unless it is a child’s bed or bunk bed, in which case we can also lean one side against the wall to reinforce the feeling of protection. And add to the sense of peace and balance by avoiding loud colors in your room.
Also, avoid the visual noise produced by the accumulation of objects. You should not accumulate under the bed, shoes, tools, to other heavy objects. The ideal is not to place anything, but if it is possible for reasons of space, it is better to replace these objects with bedding, such as sheets, duvets, or other season’s clothing.
Our sense of alert is part of our sense of survival. Instinctively, we assess whether what is moving around us can pose a threat, so we are trained to remain aware of movements that occur before our eyes. According to Feng Shui, if you place a mirror directly in front of you, you will not be able to avoid following with your eyes everything that is reflected in it and you will not be able to relax.
