Making sure that your property is up to code isn’t just about ensuring that the design of the kitchen is aesthetically pleasing or that every potential disaster has been averted but it’s also making sure that the property looks nice. When we are selling up we’ve got to think about getting our home up to code by making sure that the home is presentable (but not necessarily show home ready). There are so many things that can go wrong when we are selling up but we’ve got to make the property look presentable and even if we are fed up of those components of wear and tear in the house we have got to figure out ways to make the property look that little bit extra special.
If you have hard water it can prove to be frustrating when all of your clean glasses have streaks on them. While citric acid cleaners are perfect for homes with hard water there are other options that you can use. A vinegar solution is a good example. Vinegar is a one-stop-shop for many issues in the home. And if you apply a mixture of 50% vinegar with 50% water and apply it to the stain, after 15 minutes it breaks down the debris so you can use a toothbrush to scrub the surface clean. Hard water is a problem that many households have and it’s not something that you can fix by treating the water.
When you clean the property from top to bottom it’s likely that you cannot be bothered to clean the baseboards. After all, who likes getting down on their hands and knees and scrubbing these to within an inch of their life? And especially when they get dirty so quickly, it can be one of those things that you can’t be bothered to do. But one of the best tricks to get rid of all that dust is to attach a dryer sheet to your mop instead of a microfiber cloth. As an added bonus it lends a sweet scent to the house! You can also use dryer sheets to clean your oven pans as well!
Citrus fruits are fantastic for cleaning pretty much anything and if you’re trying to show off a sparkling bathtub it’s time to stock up on grapefruit. This citrus fruit is perfect for a dirty bathtub! Cut open the fruit and cover it with salt. The salt helps to create an abrasive texture making, sure that it’s scrubbing the stains effectively while the citric acid is breaking them down as you go.
If your plates are stacked in plain view, it can be frustrating to see a scrape. But you can make your plates look like new by using baking soda. Baking soda is something that’s got so many different uses but by making a paste with water and baking soda and buffing it into the scratches on your plates they will look as good as new in no time! Baking soda has so many different uses and if you are trigger happy with the baking soda by sprinkling your mattress with baking soda after vacuuming, it will absorb odors.
A dirty microwave is never appealing! If you are reheating your leftovers you are just caking on extra stains! Luckily, you don’t have to apply much elbow grease. All you need to do is fill a bowl with a cup of water, a couple of tablespoons of white vinegar, and pop it in the microwave on high for a few minutes. As the microwave steams up so quickly you can wipe those stains off with ease.
Going back to citric acid again! Lemons are a perfect way to freshen up so many different parts of your home. If your garbage disposal has been home to numerous questionable smells all you need to do is put up some lemons and drop them down the drain. Put the disposal system on and as it chews up the rinds you’ve got a fantastic smelling drain! But you can also use it to freshen up your wooden cutting boards. If you use wooden cutting boards to chop lots of meat and various strong-smelling foods, rubbing some lemon and salt into the chopping board doesn’t just reinvigorate it but it gets rid of those difficult stains. Sprinkle some salt on to the cutting board and then use half a lemon to rub it all in and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse the board with clean water and, hey presto, it is spotless!
If you’ve got stains on your upholstery you don’t need to hire a professional to get rid of them. Rub traditional shaving cream (not the gel kind) into the stain and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Blot it dry and you’ve got a couch that looks like new. Be sure to test this out before you put it to use because there is a slight chance of the fabric being damaged.
Dusting is one of those things that seems so frustrating because as soon as you dust a surface, things seem to collect right away. There is also the small matter of dusting and then having to vacuum afterward. But if you need to vacuum the property and forget to dust, get a sticky lint roller and fire away! It’s a perfect way to rip pretty much any material from couches or cupboards.
When your home looks a little worse for wear it’s about making sure those smaller components look presentable. Whether you’re selling up or you want the property to add an extra layer of cleanliness you don’t have to hire a professional to blitz the place from top to bottom! There are so many little cleaning hacks out there all using natural products or cheap items that you can get the property up to code in no time!
