The carpet is carpet, right? Wrong! There are several models of rugs out there and understanding your needs before making the choice is essential.
With that in mind, we have separated in this post several tips and ideas for you to choose the ideal rug model for your home. Come with us to discover a little more about this amazing world of rugs!
Choose by material
One of the first things you need to decide on is the material to make the rug. Currently, there are two basic types: natural fiber and synthetic fiber. There’s no better, no worse. Both have great quality and are very beautiful, the difference is that each one will be more suitable for one purpose than the other.
Natural fiber rugs, for example, are generally made of wool, sisal, cotton, and silk, like traditional kilim and Persian rugs. Synthetic fiber ones are known as shaggy, made largely of polyester or nylon, with long and very soft hair.
Although natural fiber rugs have that more rustic look, they can be used quietly in classic or modern decorations. The same goes for synthetic fiber ones.
Choose by format
Rugs can be round, square, or rectangular. The difference, beyond the format, of course, is in the perception of the environment from each format.
Rectangular rugs, for example, are more suitable for environments of the same format, such as kitchens (used as treadmills) and on the edge of the bed, in addition to being widely used in bathrooms.
Round rugs, in turn, are very welcome in square environments, as well as the square rugs themselves. The best place for these two types is in large spaces, such as the dining room, living room, or bedroom.
Choose by colors and prints
You also need to pay attention to the choice of colors and prints on the rug. Here, the question is more aesthetic than functional, but it is still very important.
Plain, neutral-colored rugs (without any prints) are indicated for colorful environments where prints already predominate in other elements, such as sofas and wallpaper. The neutral models are also indicated for modern, minimalist spaces or even in classic environments.
On the other hand, colored and patterned rugs are very well harmonized in decorations where neutral colors predominate in the rest of the decor, contrary to the previous tip. That way, you guarantee the highlight that the rug deserves to receive.
The colorful and printed models also help to complement environments with a retro, rustic, boho, or oriental touch. It is also worth trying the colorful versions in modern, irreverent decorations.
