This elegant three-bedroom apartment in Moscow by Alexander Tischler, completed in 2021, spans 1,485 square feet and was designed with a growing young family in mind. Combining minimalist sophistication with warm functionality, Tischler’s design offers refined open spaces, private zones, and clever storage—all tailored to family life in an urban setting.
Tailored Design for a Growing Family
At the time of design, the clients—parents of one child—were planning for a second. They requested two separate children’s bedrooms, a master suite with walk-in wardrobe, three bathrooms, a laundry room with storage, and a spacious open-plan kitchen and living area for hosting guests. Tischler’s team handled the project from concept to completion, designing and producing all custom cabinet furniture.
Elegant Open-Plan Living and Kitchen
The kitchen and living room were merged to create a light-filled great room, centered around a marble island with a zephyrous-effect porcelain top that appears monolithic in form. The Rex large-format porcelain stoneware continues across the island, backsplash, and countertops, lending a sleek, seamless finish.
Key kitchen features include:
-
Foscarini solid wood pendant lights
-
Hob with built-in extractor for a flat-panel look
-
Niche lighting above the worktop
-
Lower drawers and column cupboards instead of upper cabinets for a clean aesthetic
In the living room, a large feature wall clad in bichromatic Italon ceramic tiles is framed with perimeter lighting. Beneath the TV, a floating cabinet holds electronics and speakers, with additional surround sound speakers integrated around the sofa and ceiling.
The standout design piece is the accent bookcase, crafted with textured dark elements and a porcelain backdrop matching the kitchen—creating visual dynamism.
Refined Master Suite with Walk-In Wardrobe
The master bedroom echoes the main room’s materials, including wall panels and bronze matte mirror accents. A sash window, free from central mullions, connects to the balcony and offers panoramic views. Custom bedside tables and lighting complete the calming palette.
Adjacent to the bedroom is a custom dressing room reimagined from a narrow corridor. It features:
-
Open shirt and trouser rails
-
Glass-door wardrobes for long garments
-
Drawer units for accessories
-
A buffer zone that separates private and public areas
The master bathroom includes:
-
A shower bench
-
A motion-activated mirror with built-in lighting
-
A laundry basket cabinet designed to streamline laundry routines directly into the utility area
Adaptable Kids’ Spaces
The children’s rooms were designed with flexibility in mind. Since the furniture layout was undecided, Tischler’s team chose neutral finishes and installed magnetic track lighting for future repositioning.
The children’s walk-in closet features custom drawers, shelves, and rails to keep everything organized. In the kids’ bathroom, a niche for shower essentials, built-in mirror lighting, and a hidden laundry basket ensure convenience and visual clarity.
Utility and Storage Across the Apartment
The guest bathroom was preserved per the client’s request, while both sides of the main hallway now serve as functional storage zones:
-
Left: Full-height wardrobe with access panels for electrical and low-voltage systems
-
Right: Glass-fronted cabinets for bags and shoes
The laundry room was transformed into a highly functional utility hub, complete with:
-
Washer and dryer
-
Water heater and filters
-
Storage for stroller, suitcases, vacuum cleaner
-
Dedicated ironing space with cabinetry built to size
