The Warringah Road by Corben Architects
Located in the Mosman suburb of Sydney, Australia, theΒ Warringah RoadΒ house or otherwise known as theΒ Mosman HouseΒ is a contemporary project byΒ Corben Architects.Β It is a three-level residence which includes four luxurious bedrooms. The living room, dining roomΒ and kitchen are designed in an open plan style which maximizes the use of space.
The designers have made every effort to benefit from the location of the lot. The residence is open to the beautiful views of the ocean while its inhabitants are protected from the eyes of curious neighbors.
From the architects:Β “This new, three storey, four bedroom,Β north facing residence, sited on a battleΒ axe block was designed to take maximumΒ advantage of outstanding views overΒ Middle Harbour and maintain absoluteΒ privacy to the adjacent neighbours.Β The building replaced a small older styleΒ single level house and had to be skilfullyΒ designed to adhere to Councilβs viewΒ sharing policy and ensure minimal viewΒ loss to the neighbours behind. Β The main entry, two living areas and guestΒ wing are located on the middle levelΒ with three bedrooms on the upper level,Β the main bedroom designed as a luxuryΒ suite. The lower level incorporates a largeΒ rumpus / media room and store areas.Β The building is a simple rectilinear formΒ of concrete and masonry construction,Β carefully layered with timber batteningΒ and sandstone cladding to present aΒ modern home with a focus on naturalΒ materials and clear design principles. ”
From the architects:Β “The interior finishes incorporate AmericanΒ Oak timber floors to the living areas, Β Serena Grey honed stone floors to theΒ circulation areas, Capricorn WalnutΒ veneered joinery, white polyurethaneΒ cupboards, Raven Caesarstone island benchtops and Nero fossil stone slabs inΒ the bathrooms to create a contemporary,Β sophisticated interior with a warm invitingΒ feel.
Energy saving options were adoptedΒ including an operable skylight over theΒ central core allowing natural light andΒ ventilation, timber slated screens provideΒ sun control, concrete floors and roof toΒ provide thermal mass and low E glazingΒ to the external windows and doors.Β The finished house is a fine example ofΒ an understated but luxurious house thatΒ takes maximum advantage of a difficultΒ site.”
