Williamstown Beach Residence by Steve Domoney Architecture
What is the first thing that you want to make sure of when you are building a home just a couple of feet away from the beach? To have unobstructed views of the beach and the ocean of course. This is what was asked from Steve Domoney Architecture when they were tasked with an ambitious project in Williamstown, Australia. As a result of their hard work, the Williamstown Beach Residence stands it ground just across the road from the beach and provides its inhabitants with marvelous views throughout the entire day.
From the architects: “With a property located directly opposite the sandy shoreline of a secluded beach, the primary drive in designing a new home on this site is obviously to provide the strongest possible connection from within the house to the beach and sea beyond.”
But achieving the final shape of the home was everything but easy for the architects because the area available to build on was narrow on the side that overlooks the beach and long on the other side. This created the main objective to provide connection to all of the living accommodation zones regardless of the side they are on. In the end, the plan consisted of the living areas on the first floor with views of the beach from all zones including the kitchen, dining and family room.
