The architect had a trifold challenge to execute and that is to incorporate light, electricity and plumbing into the roughly 700-square-foot space. Even though the apartment was small he used sheet rock to cover the existing walls in order to facilitate modern elements like plumbing and electricity. So he can let the natural light travel throughout the studio he created partition walls but kept them below the full height of the ceiling, Then he left the original wood-beam ceiling exposed, painting the portion above the living room gray co he can add a contemporary feel.

Designing the interior with petite furnishings to match the scale of the apartment was the right thing to do. Now it is like a vintage love seat as well as a custom dining table and coffee table, while in the bathroom the oak vanity and the mirror which were built by a local mill worker are also custom made. In the following gallery you will see how the clean lines and simplicity lend a sense of charm to the entire studio.

So, in his words he inserted modern architectural elements into a historical shell – all the while maintaining the integrity of the space. Voila, the result is pretty darn clever! Enjoy!
