The Main Types And Dimensions Of Your Wardrobe

Wardrobe sizes are categorized into five main models: children’s, single, double, modular, and planned wardrobes. The biggest differences between each category are mainly the different needs that each one meets.

The most common wardrobe sizes to be found in stores are children’s, single and double. Modular wardrobes are a little more recent and can be purchased together or each module separately. Finally, custom wardrobes must be ordered, making them a more personal product.

In today’s article, we’ll talk about the differences between the different types and sizes of wardrobes and what the main purpose of each of these models is.

Children’s Wardrobe

Children’s wardrobe size averages close to the more compact singles wardrobes, approaching 1.7m high x 1m wide x 60cm deep. This model serves mainly as a first wardrobe for the child, specially made to be able to comfortably reach all areas, in addition to leaving its contents always in easy access.

There are also larger models of children’s wardrobes, containing up to four doors and having a width close to the largest singles wardrobes, with the largest models even exceeding 1.5 m in width. These larger children’s closets are great for siblings who need to share a wardrobe or for children who have a large amount of clothing.

Made with a children’s audience in mind, wardrobes in this category are often cheaper than others and come with props and ornaments, or even additional parts made to store toys. Due to the decorations, it is difficult for adults to use children’s closets, even if the average sizes of children’s and single wardrobes are similar.

Single Wardrobe

The average size of a single wardrobe is 2.2m high x 1.8m wide x 65cm deep. However, this measure is not absolute, and there are taller or more compact closets that are still considered part of the size of a single wardrobe. The most common differences are found in height measurements, ranging from 1.8 m to 2.7 m.

The single closet width has a slightly smaller variance, based mainly on the number of doors. The size of a single wardrobe that has only two doors can vary between 0.7 m and 1 m. If the cabinet has three doors, the tendency is to be between 0.75 m to 1.6 m. Models that are used as an average usually have four doors and measure between 1.3 m to 2 m.

In recent years the trend has been a reduction in single wardrobe sizes, as many people have started living in apartments and have access to more compact spaces. This decrease in available space began to generate a trend towards taller cabinets, to compensate for the lost space in width.

In addition, many single wardrobe sizes compensate for the short width with drawers and a better distribution of divisions in the interior space, in addition to tending to be deeper. In this case, the models get better use of the interior environment of the cabinet.

Finally, the size of the more compact single wardrobes is quite similar to children’s models, with the main difference being the height greater than the average for children’s wardrobes. This similarity makes single closets an excellent choice for parents who prefer to invest in a children’s wardrobe that will last a long time.

Double Wardrobe

The size of the average double wardrobe is in the range of 2.2 m high x 3 m wide x 70 cm deep. This medium size is usually associated with six-door cabinets, but there are also more compact alternatives to a double wardrobe, as well as larger, more luxurious options.

It is not uncommon to find a double wardrobe measuring close to 2 m in width, which is considerably smaller than the average. Once again, well-placed drawers and dividers can dramatically improve the use of space in these compact-sized models. In addition, it is possible to find double wardrobes that cover entire walls, approaching 4 m in width.

However, the biggest factor influencing the size of the wardrobe chosen is the amount of clothing the couple has. To find the ideal double wardrobe size for you and your partner, you need to keep in mind that you both need to have a good idea of what needs the property should meet.

Often, for example, just the size of the wardrobe is not enough to guarantee good organization. In some cases, it is extremely valuable to carefully analyze the distribution of the space inside the cabinet. Drawers, shelves, and dividers are excellent ways to divide the interior of a wardrobe, giving better use to the interior area of the furniture.
