FOO House by APOLLO Architects & Associates

The FOO House is a contemporary residence completed by APOLLO Architects & Associates. It is located in the city of Yokohama, Kanagawa in Japan and spans across a 2,450 sq ft field while covering 2,045 sq ft. The clients are a family with two children where the husband and wife are dedicated to gold and gardening. For this reason, the living room which is on the first floor looks through a  Japanese and western styled garden to the south.

From the architects: “The site is located in a residential area on a plateau in Yokohama-city. The characteristic facade is designed with exposed concrete and wooden lattices of Serangan batu wood, taking the horizon into consideration. It is a classic of modern design that is conscious of harmony with the surrounding greens and peaceful townscape. This two-family house successfully creates a dignity and formality that are unique to the residence.”

Besides the gardens, the clients also desired a continuation between East and West as well as an assurance of privacy. The solid teak wood on the ceilings and floors combined with the hard expression of the high-strength concrete create a contrast providing a sense of unity to the space.
