The Dutch Countryside – A Worthwhile Day Trip From Amsterdam

Besides being the capital of The Netherlands, Amsterdam is also one of the top tourist destinations in Europe. It is a city with a vast history and a great culture. There are a lot of things to see in Amsterdam and way too many things to do. It is simply a city in which you can never be bored, no matter how many times you visit it. You might actually get overwhelmed of the amount of sights that you can visit and activities that you can do during your first visit of this European capital. That is why you should not limit yourself to just one trip to Amsterdam.

Regardless of the amount of times you’ve been to Amsterdam, you should keep in mind that there is more to this stunning European country. The Netherlands is not just Amsterdam and there are plenty of amazing places that you can, in fact, you should visit.
While staying there, you should consider taking a day trip from Amsterdam to one of the many cities and villages nearby. The Netherlands is a rather small country after all so going from one place to another should not take too much of your trip, even though just driving through this country is a sight to enjoy with all of their colorful fields and legendary windmills.

Do something different for a day or two of your Amsterdam visit. Take a tour of Utrecht, for example. It is an old city, similar to Amsterdam in its canal layout. Alternatively, you can explore Rotterdam, a vibrant, modern city. And if you want to take a break from the bustling cities, you can always take a trip to an authentic Dutch village such as Giethoorn, Muiden or Naarden. You will discover incredible buildings such as the unbelievable fortress in Naarden, protected by a star-shaped moat, or if you decide to go to the Zaanse Schans countryside, you will get to see an impressive array of authentic, traditional windmills as well as an entire open-air museum of traditional Dutch architecture.

The idea of taking a 1 or 2 day break from the city during your Amsterdam trip is worth taking into account. You will take a rest from the crowded city life and you will experience more of The Netherland’s traditions and then you’ll be able to enjoy Amsterdam with a refreshed mindset.
