RR House by Delfino Lozano

The RR House is an interesting modern residence designed by Architect Delfino Lozano in Zapopan, Mexico. The goal of this modern design was to use simple materials in order to reduce the cost of transforming the old property to suit the needs of a young couple who wished to live there.

RR House is a single family dwelling with 2 stories located east of the city of Zapopan, on a site with north-south orientation, which was originally a house with no architectural value, demolished but keeping the lateral party walls.

The approach is developed based on the following objectives: economic, simplicity, privacy, spaciousness, natural lighting and ventilation, climate, living area, full use of space (functionality), natural elements, aesthetics, use of materials and labor work in the region.

Taking this as a reference, a simple and clean structure is proposed covering from side to side existing walls (open plan), modulating the house @ 1.00m, based on steel beams and jalcreto slab (very common construction system in Jalisco), wood dividing walls with thermal and acoustic insulation and pine floors, iron window frames, finishes in polished concrete floors and bars and white cement walls, achieving a range of tones with exposed finishes (honesty of materials).

The idea: to live the house from within, with a simple circulation, and a double height living room as the core of the house (with overhead ventilation), creating interaction between all areas, with cross ventilation and considerable heights, indirect energy efficient lighting and the different textures provided by the exposed materials (wood, block, slab, steel).

The architectural program is considered on the ground floor or social area, garage, laundry room, service courtyard, dining room and kitchen, bathroom, a covered terrace and garden using the existing level difference on the site. Upstairs or private area, there is a bridge / distributor, master bedroom with bathroom, dressing room, a private living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom.
