Project: Putney Mountain House
Architects: Kyu Sung Woo Architects
Location: Putney, Vermont, USA

The Putney Mountain House is located on the south and west facing slopes of Putney Mountain in Vermont. Designed by Kyu Sung Woo Architects, the house is in harmony with the landscape and reinterprets Vermont’s rural architecture with its simple volumes.
The residence is broken into three volumes, arranged around a large rock formation. This opened up a lot of spaces that allow the residents of the Putney house to enjoy stunning vistas of the green mountains.
From the architects: “The site on the southwestern slope of Putney Mountain is characterized by heavily wooded terrain, large outcroppings of ledge, and dramatic sweeping views. Three clearings in the woods frame the approach to the house from the east and open up the site to the surrounding landscape. The house consists of three simple volumes arranged around a large outcropping of exposed ledge. A living volume faces the western mountains, sleeping quarters face a southern meadow, and a shed volume houses storage and mechanical equipment.”
