LeMaster Architects display original modern architecture with a compact shape through the Peninsula House which is located in Long Beach, California. The compact, 2,628 sq ft home features a creative addition for outdoor relaxation on the roof in the form of a roof deck. It is envisioned to bring the family together during the warm evenings.
All of the rooms of the residence are sheltered by white walls with inspiring wooden additions which creates a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Even though the general design direction is the modern style, there are subtle decorating elements that break the minimalist monotony.
The large windows are responsible for the naturally lighted interiors while sliding glass doors enable the living and dining room to extend towards the outdoors.
From the architects: “The concept for this single family residence hinges on the relationship between three intersecting volumes and a base. The primary volume consists of an exterior cladding system that wraps the south elevation. Two secondary volumes are inserted to focus views and highlight significant programmatic elements. The balcony and family room are combined into a singular volume at the front of the house. The third triple height volume bisects the house and contains the vertical circulation, acting as a light well and a thermal chimney. An additional focus was to maximize outdoor living. Both the living and dining rooms can be extended outside through sliding glass doors. The roof deck is comprised of a larger viewing platform and a more intimate covered lounge.”
