Mediterranean Style With A French Riviera

This trendy style, inspired by the Mediterranean style with a French Riviera trend, originated in the 20s and 30s, in this stretch of the French coast between Menton and Antibes, where the happy people of the world came to spend the winters. It, therefore, finds its roots in art deco.

But today’s style is also nourished by a certain art of living, specific to the merry band of artists, such as Matisse, Picasso, Cocteau… who also lived on this stretch of coast in the 1940s / 1950s. They print a very bohemian way of life. The lines, colors, patterns, the shapes of this era strongly inspire the creatives of today. Like ideas, influences are exported, they are found in so-called ethnic creations at the head of the thread-based in Morocco.

Finally, we could also talk about the influences of the “Finca” style, specific to the Balearic Islands and of the Mediterranean rustic style in general, a silent style, which has conquered the decoration world beyond the Mediterranean Sea.

You take all these influences, you mix it all well and you will get this trend, very seductive because it is cheerful and calls for a certain relaxed nonchalance.

1. THE RESTAURANT LA RIVIERA
BY THE STUDIO FRIEDMANN & VERSACE

Karel Balas

This new restaurant, located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, offers Mediterranean dishes with sweet southern names that sound delicious. However, it is especially for the decoration, signed by the studio Friedmann & Versace.

The palette of colors and materials draws on Mediterranean influences: warm shades of terracotta, use of lime, terracotta screens, basketwork…, all mixed with chic materials such as velvet, marble, or onyx. Note also the creation of alcoves in the back wall, the ancient-inspired pottery, the mixture of green plants and dried flowers… very trendy, very southern.

2. ES BEC D’AGUILA IN MENORCA
BY ATELIER DU PONT

This old Finca is located on top of a hill, with incredible views of the surrounding Mediterranean landscape. The interior renovated by the Parisian architects of Atelier du Pont and the firm ARU Arquitectura offers an astonishing mix of an old bourgeois house in the area like this one:  A house with an ethnic touch and recovered in Mallorca and references in French Riviera style, with ethnic notes. A success.

Strictly speaking, the place is not a hotel. Indeed, Es Bec d’Aguila is an exclusive Finca with tailor-made services (chef, yoga session, massages, pottery lessons, etc.).

The atmospheres are soft and bright, refined and authentic through the use of local materials and know-how: dry stone walls, mares stone, white and colored lime, masonry furniture, terracotta, hidráulicos. In this mineral and Menorcan universe, the associations of antique, English, French, Danish, and Spanish furniture create a hybrid place rich in influences from its history.
