LL House by A4estudio is a striking example of contemporary residential architecture, nestled in a serene suburban area of Mendoza, Argentina. Designed by the renowned architecture firm A4estudio—also known for their acclaimed Evans House in Tunuyán—this single-story home is a masterclass in spatial efficiency, thermal regulation, and minimalist beauty.

A Courtyard-Centric Design for Harsh Climates

A4estudio approached the project with a thoughtful focus on environmental response and spatial clarity. The house is organized around a central courtyard, which serves as the entry point and core of the layout. This design promotes natural cross-ventilation and creates intermediate spaces that regulate extreme temperatures—an essential consideration for the arid Mendoza climate.

By implementing excavations and displacements, the architects shaped unique transitions within the home that offer both shelter and openness, enhancing the sense of flow without compromising privacy or functionality.

Material Palette: Honest, Raw, and Elegant

The material expression of LL House is defined by exposed concrete with vertical formwork, evoking a sense of permanence and calm. The structure is framed with a sleek, continuous black metal border that defines the roofline and adds a subtle industrial edge.

The balance of raw materiality and refined geometry reflects A4estudio’s design philosophy—where form meets climate-conscious strategy.

Interior Layout: Framing Views and Privacy

Inside, the home unfolds in a deliberate sequence. From the main entrance, one accesses a reading room and wine cellar before entering the central living area. This open space combines the living room, dining area, and kitchen, with framed views of the distant Andes Mountains through expansive glazing.

Private zones, including bedrooms and bathrooms, are located on the northern side of the home. These rooms are carefully oriented to ensure privacy and optimal natural light throughout the day.

A Study in Quiet Innovation

LL House is more than just a modern home—it’s a reflection of architectural restraint and sensitivity to environment. The home serves as an example of how well-considered design can provide comfort, privacy, and a deep connection to place.
