Do you like decoration? And from books? How about joining these two passions and creating a creative and original book decoration?
Well, that’s the purpose of this post: to give you super cool tips and ideas so that you can make the most of what the books have to offer.
How to decorate with books: tips and ideas
Create a color palette
If you have a lot of books at home, you might consider separating them by color or by the predominant color on the cover. For those who follow the minimalist or classic genre, the tip is to bet on books with neutral color covers and little visual information. Already the most stripped and modern can invest in a composition of colorful books.
position of books
By tradition, books are almost always displayed vertically on the shelf with the spine facing forward. But that’s not a rule and you can feel free to break that pattern. One possibility, for example, is to use the books horizontally, forming piles of different sizes. You can also place them next to each other on a rack or coffee table so that all covers are exposed.
Another interesting way is to leave a book open to a page with some impactful illustration or photography.
Format
The variety of books can also be seen in the formats. Most follow the standard size of 14cm x 21cm or 16cm x 23cm. Books dedicated to topics such as art, architecture, and photography are usually a little larger, with sizes between 21cm x 28cm or 24cm x 30cm. There are also pocket formats with a size of 11 cm x 18 cm or even square models, dedicated to children’s genres, generally measuring 20 cm x 20 cm.
This variety of sizes is important when composing the decoration since the most interesting thing is to combine the books by the similarity of formats to create a uniform and harmonious composition. But remember that this doesn’t have to be a pattern. You can create a more “free” and asymmetrical composition by bringing together books of different sizes, it all depends on what you want in your decoration.
Preferred titles
Since you’re going to display the books in the decor, then nothing better than selecting your favorite titles, so the decor gets even more personality.
And the old books?
Old books with torn or missing pages can be used in decorating in even more creative ways. You can put the open book on the wall, as if it were a painting, or make a sculpture with the pages, for example. Another way to take advantage of these books is to create furniture. That’s right! You can make shelves using old books as a support or even use them as a table stand.
Book care
- Do not place your books in damp environments or places subject to mold growth. Also, do not leave them leaning against the wall to avoid mold.
- The sun also needs to be avoided. Solar radiation can damage the cover and inside pages.
- Beware of places that receive a lot of dust, such as balconies, for example. In this case, the best thing is to maintain a constant cleaning routine to avoid the accumulation of dirt.
