Hidden Hills Residence by Bittoni Architects

Conceptualized by Bittoni Architects, Hidden Hills informs a design dialogue between modern Scandinavian influences and the ranch history of a notorious gated community, with a purposeful intention to invoke a sense of calm.

The property encompasses a single-level 11,788-square-foot residence with a guest home, maintained horse trails, cultivated courtyards, and a spa-like zero-edge pool. Outside, special considerations are taken to deliver a serene escape from the glitz of nearby Hollywood. The home itself honors the ranch lifestyle with a required 4:12 pitched roof. The narrow planked wood ceiling spurs a warm, modern sensibility paired with continuous wood cladding perpendicular to the ground to elongate its façade.

A courtyard centered within the home’s footprint promotes the outdoor grange lifestyle. An uninterrupted boardform concrete wall seemingly pours into the pavement to provide a built-in lounge. Overhead, roofing extends to shade the patio from the California sun. Etched into the concrete patio, a bocce ball court offers another palliative pastime. The knife-edge pool, a beloved staple within Bittoni Architects’ portfolio, mimics a lake with its turquoise hue.

Within, the ranch home style is reimagined with modern Scandinavian influences. Where one might expect a white palette, Bittoni Architects employs rich finishes that accentuate the materiality of natural walnut, hand troweled plaster, oak floors, and granite countertops. Throughout the home, the lines between indoor and outdoor are blurred with sprawling windows that overlook the meticulously nestled patio.

The primary suite provides a sanctuary in the east wing of the home. Its warm palette is enriched with a custom fireplace framed by a tile surround that connects to the adjacent headboard wall. A built-in walnut bench wraps around the base of the fireplace and provides a resting place to gaze across towards the grand windows peering out into the courtyard. Overhead, the narrow wood paneled ceiling echoes the materiality of the exterior siding, further encapsulating indoor-outdoor living. Bittoni Architects accessorizes the space with a grand 101 Copenhagen pendant lamp, wood grain furnishings, and a curated nook grounded by a custom leather Barcelona daybed.

The sumptuous kitchen underscores the raw materials and textures wielded throughout the home. A granite island grounds the space with Arteriors barstools for four. Brass pendants illuminate the double height kitchen with the addition of two skylights built into the pitched ceiling. Straight-stacked tile not only acts as a backdrop for a sizeable cook and prep area , but also provides another layer of texture against the hand troweled plaster walls. Counter height cabinetry affords storage without obscuring views through sweeping windows and the free-flowing open concept.

With its distinctive serene approach, Bittoni Architects has reimagined ranch style living in this extraordinary Hidden Hills estate.
