Curved House by Hufft Projects
The Curved House project is a stunning modern residence located on a lush field in Springfield, Missouri. With just under 8,000 square feet spread across a single story, this modern abode creates minimalist living spaces as well as spaces that need to have their privacy reserved. It was designed by Hufft Projects, a studio whose work you might recognize from their Heavy Metal project in Joplin, Missouri which we’ve showcased a little while ago.
The Curved House is a modern residence with distinctive lines.
The house’s material palette is an eclectic mix of brick, ipe, cedar, and Spanish tile. A signature masonry wall gently curves in two places signifying the primary entrance and reappears, again with a curve, to form the west wall of the pool cabana. The curving form of the terra cotta Spanish tile reflects, on a more detailed scale, the gesture of the curve. Both the fire pit and the pool’s design play upon the sinuous motif as well.
Interior details and finishes are highly refined. Intricate tile work, well crafted casework, and the complete integration of the constituent parts assure a rich experience for the residents. Hufft Projects and its sister company, Edwin Blue, are currently in the process of designing furnishings for the residence as well.
As with all Hufft Projects The Curved House hosts a variety of sustainable strategies including an array of solar panels, a geothermal HVAC system, a radiant floor heating system, low-E glass throughout, abundant natural day lighting, and views to the surrounding landscape from most every room.
