Contemporary Guest Houses by YOD Design Lab
Located in the middle of a pine forest in the Poltava region of Ukraine, the twoΒ contemporary guest housesΒ were completed in just two months. The design belongs to the local architecture studioΒ YOD design lab.Β
Even though these guest houses are located in the middle of the forest, they have been carefully positionedΒ in a way to avoid harming the natural landscape and surrounding environment.
From the architects:Β “The guest houses are the variation of the hotel rooms in spa-complex Relax Park Verholy located in a pine forest in the Poltava region. Houses are built from lightweight metal frame structures made by BF Zavod company (Kiev) in accordance with the designers’ drafts. The space of the house is 32 mΒ² and the total weight of the frame with the sandwich panels, covering construction and floors, is 2200 kg.”
We mentioned that the surrounding nature wasn’t harmed with the construction of these guest houses but how exactly did they manage that?
Instead of the usual solid base that structures are built on, each of these small houses stand on a so-called screw base. What this technology offers is basically it allows for a quick set up of the structure in any landscape without harming the nature. This is exactly what was used in this case to help set the houses among the pines without damaging the trees or their roots.
The interior is compact but the minimalist aesthetics make sure that it doesn’t feel too small or crowded and the natural finishes just add up to the feeling of being surrounded by nature. One wall, the one with the entrance, is fully glazed which allows the guests to enjoy nature without leaving the room in the daytime while the dense curtains can create privacy in the evening.
