Can You Handle A Dark Shade in the Kitchen?

The dark kitchen is a slightly unusual room to decorate in a home. The decoration of the kitchen must be practical, pleasant and bright enough to be able to fully benefit from this living space. Even if fashions and trends evolve, sometimes we want a little change.

COLOR THE KITCHEN WITH DARK GRAY

Gray is a timeless color or at least one that stays in tune with the times. It is not like the bright red or the tangy green which knew their hour of glory there are a good ten years and which now are exceeded. No, gray always pleases as much even when it is in dark shades. Anthracite gray or dark gray kitchens are not new to the decor market. And it is possible that your kitchen is already dark, at least on your furniture. The question is whether you will add an extra dose of dark on your walls for example. And we wouldn’t tell you if you should do it or if it’s a bad idea. If you want to hide your furniture a little, you can paint the wall against which the furniture is arranged, in a spirit of tone on tone. But as with dark colors, which includes dark gray, it is imperative to work on the lighting to see enough.
Dark gray is not used only in tone on tone. We can find it associated with white for a soft contrasted atmosphere. We can find it associated with a deep blue for a fairly masculine atmosphere full of character. And in another dynamic, combining dark gray and wood will allow you to bring to your living space an authentic and warm style, once again with a certain dose of character.

DECORATE THE KITCHEN WITH BLACK

Gray is not the only dark color that has its place in the kitchen. We can also think of black even if it is less common. Black and white, it is a dynamic and contemporary combo of colors. Black and wood, for authenticity and conviviality. It is a set of colors/materials that we find quite enveloping. Black and cement tiles for an elegant kitchen with a history. The use of black in decoration, in the kitchen and elsewhere, is in our opinion a daring choice. You have to dare to choose black. Matt black remains easier to use than lacquered black or glossy black. But beware, matt colors don’t wash out as easily as bright ones.

DECORATE THE KITCHEN WITH THE DARK GREEN

In another range of colors, dark green can be used in the kitchen. We often see furniture with classic and simple looks repainted in dark green. We also see the wall tiles in dark green. With this type of color, we will no longer seek to create an outmoded kitchen, with a certain charm of yesteryear while remaining in a contemporary perspective. Darker shades like bottle green make me think of the English country house style. The country style is not the same in France or across the Channel and on the English side, there is a kind of elegance and restraint that I find with the shades of dark green.

DARK BLUE IN THE KITCHEN

Blue is less often used in the kitchen than in the bedroom for example. Blue is generally associated with calm, rest, softness, which is why it is not a frequent color in this living room. Blue is nevertheless not incompatible, especially in its darkest shades. Again, we will create an atmosphere with a certain depth. We can use it to highlight a slightly bare wall and associate it with cement tiles for example. This coating, which can be found on the floor as well as on the walls, comes in many colors and the pattern makes it possible to make a nice reminder of the color on the wall without doing too much.

BORDEAUX AND DARK REDS TO DECORATE THE KITCHEN

We end this tour of dark colors with burgundy. It is deep, it is intense and it does not sting in the eyes. In our mind, the color burgundy finds its place in the kitchen quite naturally since it is a color associated with gastronomy. Yes, Bordeaux is above all associated with wine, before being associated with the city or even with color. It is a color that we find a welcoming, lively. And in a living room like the kitchen where you need conviviality and vigor, it’s perfect.

To finish, we will leave you with a few images that should give you ideas and maybe make you want to take the plunge and dare the dark color in your kitchen.
