Benefits of Remodeling Your Basement

When you first moved into your home, you were probably preoccupied with decorating it and making any necessary repairs to the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living rooms. The basement was likely the last thing you thought about. However, you can turn your basement into an extra living space, bedroom, or even an apartment. Your basement can increase the liveability of your home as well as its value. You can even make a few bucks from it on the side.

An Extra Room

A home’s basement offers many possibilities. You can change it into an extra living room or you can turn it into a man cave or she-shed. If you add a big-screen television, and a few recliners, you can construct a home theater. A Pool table and an old school video game can make your basement a game room for the kids. If you do a lot of entertaining, you can make your basement into a party room with the addition of a bar. If one of your kids is clamoring for their own room, or if an adult child who has not left the nest yet wants a bit of privacy, you can turn the basement into a bedroom.

Create a Home Gym

If you are paying a monthly fee for a gym, or if you have just resolved to get in shape, your basement can be transformed into a  home gym. Given the price of most pay by the month gyms, a home work out room with a treadmill or elliptical and a few free weights can pay for itself in a few years. Many gyms are closed these days and a home gym can keep you healthy in a time where fitness is very important.

Rubber flooring is a good option for a home gym. You can make it more comfortable if you put some carpeting over the rubber. When you leave your home, a gym can add quite a bit of value to the overall price that you will get.

Create a Mother in Law Apartment

If you are able to add a bathroom and a small kitchen to your basement, you can create a mother-in-law apartment. A mother-in-law apartment can not only be used for housing your relatives when they get older, but it can also be quite profitable.

Small apartments rent for as much as $1500  a month in Seattle. If you don’t want to deal with things like leases and full-time tenants, you can always rent out the space through a home-sharing service. That way, you can use the apartment when you want it and rent it out when it is convenient for you.

Finding a Contractor

Once you decide how to remodel your basement, you will need the assistance of a good contractor. The contracting company you choose should be staffed with workers who have years of experience in home repair and improvement. They should be able to provide you

with references and their license should be up to date. They should be able to give you a price estimate and a timeline.

Although the basement may seem like a dark place, Home Care Contractors can help you make it into the perfect sanctuary.
