Blending Privacy and Hospitality
Set amidst the steep terrain of Itaipava, Brazil, Ardósia House redefines summer living with its innovative split-level design. Architectare crafted a retreat that balances private living spaces with expansive, welcoming areas for entertaining. The clever arrangement ensures residents and guests can coexist seamlessly, enjoying the home’s breathtaking surroundings and thoughtful design.
Design Highlights
- Split-Level Layout:
- The upper level hosts the social and service areas, creating a lively, flexible space for entertaining.
- The lower level is dedicated to private suites, tucked discreetly into the terrain for added privacy.
- Integrated Terrain Design:
- A cut into the steep hillside enhances privacy, concealing the lower level from the street.
- The roof of the lower level serves as an extended plateau for the upper floor, maximizing outdoor space.
- Infinity Pool as a Visual Anchor:
- Positioned at the edge of the building, the pool doubles as a protective barrier while preserving unobstructed views.
Dynamic Social Spaces
The upper level is a masterclass in flexibility:
- Sliding Doors for Adaptability:
- The dining room transforms effortlessly between formal and casual settings.
- Doors can open completely to blend the indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a vast, balcony-like area.
- Purposeful Flow:
- A V-shaped plan clad in slate welcomes guests via a bridge over a reflecting pool.
- Leisure areas, including game rooms, a bar, and a cantilevered sauna, take full advantage of the panoramic views.
Material Contrasts and Warm Interiors
- Exterior: The slate-clad exterior merges seamlessly with the natural surroundings, creating a low-profile, sculptural presence.
- Interior: Warm brick and pine wood offset the coolness of the stone, providing a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
- Lighting: Pergolas and strategically placed openings balance light and shade, inviting the outdoors in.
Private Spaces and Discreet Functionality
The lower level offers a tranquil escape for residents:
- Garden Access: Four suites open directly onto lush, private gardens.
- Service Block: An independent volume discreetly houses operational areas, ensuring seamless functionality without disrupting the aesthetic.
A Summer House for All Seasons
Ardósia House is more than a summer escape—it’s a versatile, welcoming home that celebrates its natural surroundings. Its thoughtful design, adaptable spaces, and harmonious blend of materials create a retreat that’s perfect for entertaining, relaxing, and reconnecting with nature.
