Ammoudi House by Katerina Valsamaki Architects
The Ammoudi House is a luxurious contemporary dwelling set in the town of Ammoudi, in the north-eastern part of the Zakynthos Island in Greece. This is a very popular island with incredible beaches and a renowned night-life so the location is spot on. But that’s not even the best part of this home. It’s splendid design is what makes it so unique and just incredible to look at. Its design integrates the modern shape into the beautiful landscape while the plot opens it up to stellar views all around.
The 240sqm house is located by the sea at the NE part of the island of Zakynthos in Greece and was designed for a three member family as a vacation house that could later serve as a permanent residence.
The design focused on integrating the building with the microenvironment of the plot with the low vegetation, the vineyards and the olive trees. The irregular shape of the plot as well as the view, dictated the almost linear development of the plan. The house is composed by three low volumes following the gentle natural slope of the ground. The position, the orientation and the height of the building make it almost invisible from the street, while it opens up completely to the sea view.
The internal space of the house is physically and visually extended with the pergolas. The transparency of the large glass openings strengthens the visual penetrability while all the interior living areas are converted into a large outdoor covered space when the sliding glass panels open.
