The construction of this building dates back to 1902, the year in which it was completed. The truth is that this Palace was a revolutionary building in the country at the beginning of the century, and today it remains one of the most emblematic buildings in Budapest. Its importance is such that it is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, being one of the two buildings commissioned by Her Imperial Highness and Royal Highness Maria Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Originally, the building, which stands as a gateway to the iconic Elisabeth Bridge, housed shops, galleries, and cafes on the lower floor, and residential apartments on the upper floors.
The designer, explains that the compelling design narrative rooted in the local culture that was created for this historic palace is embedded in every element of the project. the design invites guests on a journey of discovery, which is a very important element of the hotel experience.
In keeping with this narrative, the hotel’s design takes guests on a journey through time from the moment they enter the hotel. In this sense, the entrance hall is enhanced with pendant lamps made up of individual porcelain pieces that pay tribute to the traditional Hungarian art of Zsolnay. On the other hand, a chromatic range of blue-green, gold and copper predominates throughout the property, reproducing the tones of the city’s emblematic buildings and their peculiar roofs.
From the lobby and reception, the feeling of serenity and escape from the busy life of the capital is already present, which is achieved through an elaborate design and details in the windows that allow hiding the view of the streets. To enhance the aforementioned local narrative, in the lobby there is a large collection of historical photos that allow the guest to have a real vision of the history of the original building and the city.
The hotel also has a range of world-class dining venues, including a ‘clandestine’ liquor store hidden among the famous rooftops of Budapest. On the other hand, to achieve total immersion in the culture of the city, the hotel spa offers an experience with traditional thermal therapy and hammam rituals designed to awaken all the senses.
In terms of rooms, the hotel will offer a selection of 111 rooms and 19 suites, most of them with stunning views of the entire city.
