Have you recently purchased some gorgeous, cheap tapestries that you are dying to hang? We understand the excitement that comes with displaying a beautiful new piece of wall art but also know that it can damage your walls if it’s hung incorrectly.
We’re going to take a look at several ways that you might consider hanging your new tapestries, including commonly used methods as well as less traditional techniques. We will also give you some suggestions on how to display these works of art without the hassle of hanging them.

If your wall tapestry happens to be super lightweight, you might be able to hang it using high-quality thumbtacks, hook and loop fasteners (like Velcro strips) or strong, double-sided tape that is made for decorations.
Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t get a little bit more creative with how you hang your art. You might choose to use one of the basic methods mentioned above but then opt for other ways to draw even more attention to the area.
You might consider adding small LED string lights around the tapestry. These smaller lights don’t give off the tacky Christmas vibe, but instead offer a bohemian feel to your space and will direct your guests’ eyes to the room’s centerpiece.
If you are looking for a more natural way to hang your wall tapestry, consider using a branch to do so. There are a few ways to do this, but we especially love the two ideas below.
The first way you might consider using a tree branch to hang your tapestry is to use a plastic needle to attach the tapestry to the branch with thick yarn or string. Once the art is attached, tie a hanging cable at either end of the branch to hang on a nail. This will be similar to the process used to hang a heavy painting or frame. Be sure to find a wall stud to ensure the hanging stays secure and doesn’t damage the sheetrock.
If you aren’t too keen on attaching your tapestry to a branch by using thread, you can also hang the branch using the method above. Once your branch is on the wall, you can simply drape the tapestry over it.
Your tapestry might be on the heavier side and it may seem as though it may fall. If this is the case, either drape the cloth further down or opt for a few strong safety pins to secure the tapestry to itself. The use of strong safety pins will leave less noticeable holes than using a plastic needle and thick thread.
If you are looking for cleaner lines and a bit more of a traditional way to hang your tapestry, consider using a curtain rod. Most tapestries already come with a rod pocket sewn into them but if yours doesn’t, you can simply opt to use curtain clips.
Hang the curtain rod brackets according to the instructions included in the package. You may need a few extra tools including a drill and a level, however, a screwdriver and a keen eye might get you by without them. Once your brackets are hung, either insert the rod through the tapestry or attach the curtain clips and place them on the rod.
If your tapestry happens to not have a rod pocket and you aren’t into hanging a curtain bracket/rod and definitely don’t sew, this option might be a simple solution! Fold over a small piece of the tapestry’s fabric and attach it to itself using fabric glue.
Once the glue is dry, place a dowel rod in the pocket and screw an eye hook into each end of the dowel. Attach string or rope to each eye hook and hang the tapestry on a nail, screw, or even a removable hook.
This method is simple and will work well for medium to lightweight tapestries. However, if you happen to have a heavier fabric, you may just need to use more glue, a thicker rod, and a heavier rope.
