All About Ecological Painting

We will seek to know more about the “ecological” commercial argument which is sometimes affixed to a painting. We will focus on the differences between ecological, natural, and bio-based paints.

WHY CHOOSE A MORE GREEN PAINT?

Because you really care about ecology, because you want to do your part because you are looking to create a cleaner interior for your family. There are different reasons that can lead you to choose a more respectful painting. of the environment. Whereas for decades painting was mainly created from petrochemical elements (petroleum derivatives), now organic or at least ecological painting tends to democratize a little more.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATURAL PAINT AND ECOLOGICAL PAINT

To simplify, we will do the schematic:
Green paint = Little VOC emission
Natural paint or organic paint = must contain at least 95% natural products
The difference between ecological paint and organic paint is in the composition. Ecological paint will not be composed of natural products or not exclusively (below 95%). A so-called ecological paint will not necessarily be biological paint.

Bio-based paint is a paint that contains 95% natural products. You are going to ask me what is the difference between biological and bio-based paint? Organic appellation is very regulated. Calling a “bio-based” paint makes it possible to circumvent this regulation, not necessarily in a negative way. It is more a commercial argument to quickly say that the origin of the components of the paint is natural.

Organic brings a much more important constraint than ecological. And we admit organic is quite beyond me. Even though this notion has been part of the commercial field for several decades, there is a blatant lack of transparency and we find it difficult to know exactly what is organic or not. On the other hand, an ecological painting in my opinion is more easily identifiable.

Biodegradable paint – These are paints used to mark sports fields for example. So unless you want to transform your garden into cricket ground, this is not the type of paintings that interests us in this article.

Recycled paint – This is a more recent type of paint. Instead of going to incineration, the pot and the paint go into a circular process. Recycled paint is made up of 70% of paints that have already been used and they make it possible to reduce the carbon footprint by 80% compared to conventional paint.

Finally, for DIY lovers, it is also possible to do your own painting.

Here we come to the end of this article. We hope that it has allowed you to better understand the different types of paint that can be found on the market today and that it will allow you to make a more informed choice for your next decoration projects.
